Remember that ESG clothing items will NOT be available at Ski-O venues this year!
You must pick up clothing at ESG Headquarters in the LP Convention Center,
2634 Main St., Lake Placid. Remember it’s first come first served!
There is no need to Check-In at the Ski-O Venues unless you owe payment, are renting a timing chip / mapholder, or need other information!
You do not need to purchase trail passes for any venue: these are included in your Registration fee.

Waxing Facilities – minimal facilities but wax cabins at Mt. Van Hoevenberg will be available (see diagram below) during daytime hours.
Warmup Area – on flats around main Lodge ONLY. Please do not cross road or go down any hills as this will take you onto the course.
Out of Bounds Area: most of the upper access road into the main Lodge is marked Out of Bounds on your map. Cross access road ONLY in non OOB sections. There will be somebody shoveling snow onto the road at the most logical crossing point!
Course Conditions: good overall snow coverage, but keep in mind that this is a golf course with expansive open fairways. High winds over the past few days have resulted in some snowblown areas along with others piled with snow. There will be yellow triangle danger symbols on the map to denote any snowblown areas and/or areas of visible gravel but you should still be cautious and look ahead for bare spots, especially around the perimeter of the fairways where gravel golf cart paths are situated.
Course Notes: Map Scale: 1:7500, Contours 5m.
Controls are worth the 10s digit x 10, ie Control #46 = 40 pts, #62 = 60 pts.
For every minute overtime, 100 pts will be deducted!
Saturday, Feb. 1 – Mt. Van Hoevenberg Ski Area, 31 Van Hoevenberg Way (formerly Bobsled Lane), Lake Placid
Format – Day 1 of Combined Event
First Start: 11:00 am. Start location is marked on diagram below.
Parking – Lot A near the end of Van Hoevenberg Way. See diagram below. There is direct access to the ski trails from this parking area – you do not need to go to the Main Lodge.
Check-In / Download – Cabin 21 in adjacent parking lot – see diagram below.
Results and Refreshments – Cabin 22, next to Download.
Waxing Facilities – Huts 9, 10, 18 & 19 in Parking Lot A – see below.
Please do not leave any personal items in wax cabins. Cabins available during daytime hours.
Ski testing is limited to the Warmup Loop behind the biathlon range (see diagram below). Please be aware that the snow in the biathlon stadium is artificial and not representative of what you will see elsewhere on the course or at our other ESG venues.
Washrooms – Portapotties will be set up near waxing huts; regular washrooms in Main Lodge.
Warmup Area – short out and back trail behind biathlon range (see below). Please do not leave this trail as it will take you onto the course, and do not ski anywhere in the main stadium when warming up as there will be other races going on.
Food available for purchase in Main Lodge (indicated by large building south of the parking lots on diagram below).
Course Notes: Map Scale: 1:11000, Contours 5 m.
We will be sharing the main stadium with ESG Biathlon which will start earlier and be ongoing during our event. The ESG Cross Country races will start after us. We are keeping our race to the backside of the range as the map shows so as to not interfere with the other races.
Since Sunday’s course will cover some of the same area as Saturday, Saturday maps will be collected at the Finish; they will be distributed after Sunday’s finish.
The snow coverage at VanHo is currently good to excellent. If you decide to take off your skis to run a trail remember that according to the rules you must take your equipment with you. Consider walking down steep sections of snowshoe trails!
One way trails: One way trail signs on the course (not on the map) may be ignored. Many trails at Van Hoevenberg, while not designated as one way, are commonly skied in one direction. You may go the opposite way but be observant, especially on hills and going around corners, and yield to skiers coming towards you.
Skiers on Courses 3 & 4 will be using the new Competition Loops near the Main Lodge. Crossing red and blue v-boards will indicate that you are on these trails. There will be biathlon racers on these trails at the same time so it is important to ski in control.
The arrows on your map indicate the normal direction of flow. You do not have to follow the arrows, but if skiing against the flow please be observant and yield to oncoming skiers.

Sunday, Feb. 2 – Cascade Welcome Center, 4833 Cascade Road, Lake Placid
Format: Day 2 of Combined Event
.
First Start: 10:30 am
Parking – in main parking lot. The lot is small and there will be a lot of recreational skiers at Cascade, so please park prudently and carpool if possible.

No food available for purchase.
Waxing Facilities – no indoor facilities but waxing cabins at Mt. Van Hoevenberg will be available during daylight hours (see above).

Course Notes: Map Scale: 1:10000, Contours 2.5m
Good snow coverage. We will be using both Cascade and Van Ho trails for this event. Please refer to the course notes above for Van Hoevenberg. You may encounter some trails at Cascade that are narrow and have a classic track down the middle. These are non-skating trails! If you are skating please double pole in these sections.
And, like yesterday, please consider walking down steep sections of snowshoe trails!
