It was a fine day for orienteering: not too hot or too cold, and plenty of sunshine. We had a great turnout, particularly considering that some of our regulars were off elsewhere and unable to join us. The rain earlier this week made the marshes more closely resemble how they are mapped; and the level of green seemed close to the mapped level.
There was a terrifically close race on the advanced course, with the top four finishing less than two minutes apart. There was a common error on the Intermediate course, where four competitors missed seeing the last control before the Finish. That mistake is one of the disadvantages of using SI, because you can’t see if the number of controls you have visited matches the number of them on the course, which you could tell if using pin punches. See splits below.
I had a couple of download issues. I was able to correct them using the event software. But it took me a while to figure out how to do it: if you need to enter control times, don’t enter the split time; enter the clock time! Which the printout will give you.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the day, and why not! Thanks to Josh for setting the courses. This was his first meet as Director, and he did a fine job.
Also thanks to Kevin and Laszlo for helping him pick up. If I’ve missed some big contributor, I’m sorry for forgetting to include you.
I hope we see you at the EMPO Champs on Nov 1 at Grafton! There will be a full Five course menu.
